Fed: More parents choosing private schools ABS figures

CANBERRA, Jan 20 AAP - More Australian parents are deciding to send their children
to private schools, official figures show.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released preliminary figures from the
1999 National Schools Census showing government school student numbers increased by 0.4
per cent from 1998, to nearly 2.3 million.

Attendance at non-government schools jumped by a much stronger 2.1 per cent, to 979,000.
