QLD:Slipper disappointed at graffiti attack

BRISBANE, Dec 9 AAP - House of Representatives Speaker Peter Slipper says he is disappointed
with a graffiti attack on his Sunshine Coast electorate office.

The words "grub" and "slimeball" were sprayed on the windows of the Buddina office
and a picture of the Independent MP was defaced.

The graffiti was discovered on Friday morning.

"While I am disappointed with the graffiti attack, it in no way diminishes my resolve
to be the best independent speaker I can be," Mr Slipper said in a statement.

"I will not speculate on who committed this crime.

"I am focused on directing my energy toward improving things that matter on the Sunshine
Coast and in parliament."

Mr Slipper said his door would always remain open to all constituents.

"I have respect for the views of all, including those who disagree with me, and I appreciate
hearing and debating new ideas," he said.

Mr Slipper quit the coalition to take up the role of Speaker last month.

The graffiti appeared a day after the newly independent MP sent an open letter to his
constituents assuring them he had not abandoned his conservative political roots.

His move gave the opposition one less seat in federal parliament, handing the government
an advantage.
