NSW: Kiss of life saves boy
SYDNEY, Dec 22 AAP - Lifesavers gave the kiss of life to an eight-year-old boy who nearly
drowned in surf on the New South Wales central coast today.
He had been swimming with a four-year-old girl at Umina Beach when they were both knocked
over by moderate waves about 4.30pm (AEDT).
An ambulance spokesman said the boy was unconscious.
A crew from the Westpac LifeSaver Helicopter airlifted the children to Gosford Hospital
where they were both reported to be in a serious but stable condition.
The incident was one of two near drownings involving children today.
An ambulance spokesman said a 12-month-old boy was saved by his mother from a residential
swimming pool at Cabramatta in Sydney's south-west about 6.15pm.
He said the boy was still conscious and had been taken to Liverpool Hospital for
observation.
